I think it stinks that can just raise medicare premiums and not give a cost of living. If the cost of living didn’t go up why should the premiums go up.People on a fix income this hurts them. If the government didn’t waste so much money they wouldn’t have to raise the rates. Why do we give so much money to foreign countries. Keep some of that money in the U.S.A. and help our own people.
Darrell
You are right Darrell! Most people who are on Medicare are on a fixed income and can’t afford big increases like this. Especially when they don’t give you a social security increase of living (because there’s no inflation, right?). I guess that means there’s no inflation in healthcare either? It just doesn’t make sense at all. We do need to worry more about taking care of our own. Let’s get our own financial house in order before we fork out billions of dollars to other countries!
How do we protest against this? People who are not yet taking SS benefits but are on Medicare SHOULD NOT be penalized like this! A 52% increase is outrageous!!
I agree with you Marcie! The whole Medicare system is in trouble due to rising healthcare costs, and people living longer. We all need to write our law makers and let them know that they need to fix the whole system so that we can all have access to quality healthcare for as long as we need it. The biggest increases are going to those who have the highest incomes, so not everyone will be hit that hard, thank goodness!
I agree we should protest, this is so unfair. They should exclude anyone who has already signed up prior to the effective date change. The fact that they are not taking SS benefits should not be a factor. We are paying for Obamacare.
Disability income for me and my wife is all we have. We have no savings. And Medicare is our only source of healthcare. This will hurt us tremendously. Will be a $120 per month increase and with no COLA increase. I will have to cut back on food and lower the thermostat significantly. I have diabetes and neuropathy and have lost part of my foot because of it. I cannot work to get extra money, so this will have a devastating effect on us. Please call your HR Congressman and Senator for your state and complain. I plan to today!
